OBITUARY

Robert H. Carey, Jr., 87 of Bentleyville, PA formerly of Fallowfield Township, died Monday, January 13, 2014 in Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born March 30 1926 in Masontown, PA a son of the late Robert H. and Minnie G. Mechling Carey, Sr.
Mr. Carey was a 1944 graduate of Ellsworth High School.
During WWII he served with the US Army in the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served in campaigns in Central Europe and the Rhineland. For his service he was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, Eastern Africa and Middle East Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. 
In 1990 he retired from the Bethlehem Mines #51, Ellsworth, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #1197.
Mr. Carey was a member of the former Memory Chapel, Eighty Four, PA. 
As a child, he played the harmonica accompanying his mother, and he continued to play his entire life. He loved watching Pittsburgh Penguins on television and enjoyed gardening. 
On May 10, 1973 he married Betty J. Fisher Carey who died April 23, 2010. 
Surviving is a daughter, Roberta Adams of Hamburg, NY; two grandchildren, Ericka Jo Adams of Baltimore, MD and Robert Adams of Hamburg, NY; two sisters, Betty Myers of Bentleyville, PA and Sara McIlvaine of Sebring, FL; one brother, Hugh “Buzzy” Carey and his wife Mildred of Monongahela, PA and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4 to 6 P.M., the hour of services in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA with Rev. Andy Scott officiating. Private interment will be in the Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
